About Hard Anodised Aluminium

Hard anodized aluminium is used in a variety of cookware. The term anodized means that a material, such as the aluminium in cookware, has been subjected to an electrolytic process, where natural oxidation has been controlled. This involves dipping the aluminium in a chemical bath and applying an electric current to it, which causes the oxide to be produced. This layer of oxide hardens the aluminium and keeps the metal from reacting with acidic foods and provides a hard, smooth surface that is very durable.

Benefits of Hard Anodised Cookware

  • Extra Hard- The outstanding feature of this kind of cookware is very durable. By anodized aluminium, it’s a scratch-resistant ‐no chip or peels easily. In fact, it’s twice harder than alloy like stainless steel.
  • Non-Reactive - Unlike other metallic pans, the non-porous coat locks in the aluminium inside for preventing aluminium leaching possibility when cooking acidic food like tomato sauces or lemon juices.
  • High Cooking Performance - By advantaging from a whole aluminium building, it unsurprisingly conducts heat very fast and evenly.
  • Easy to Clean - As smoothly nonstick, hard-anodized cookware is very easy to clean.

Hard Anodised Care Tips:

  • Avoid High Heat - As absorbing heat very quickly, this cookware does well for medium to medium-high temperature for long cooking. Avoid pre-heat on high, too.
  • No Cooking Spray - Any aerosol sprays have a chemical propellant and water. When preheating the pan, the water and chemical will evaporate instantly and leave sticky remainder which is hard to remove. This makes the pan become stick later. Use little oil or butter to wipe the inside surface of the pan, instead.
  • Hand Wash - Any hard anodized and non-stick aren’t good for dishwasher. Though some of them are labelled dishwasher-safe, typically the experts still suggest washing by hand for keeping longer uses.
  • No Abrasive and Scratchy Sponges - Like traditional pans, dishwashing detergent and soft bristle, is good and enough for cleaning. For burnt spots, keep the pan cool and soak in hot soapy water for 10 minutes, and follow with regular cleaning.
  • Storage- Even though hard anodized cookware has a more durable finish, it should be properly stored to prevent scratches on the finish or dents in the pans. There are various ways to store cookware including using a pot rack, designating a cabinet space, or using in-cabinet slide-out racks.
